What Does It Mean to Shop at Nordstrom?
Or… what does it mean to not shop at Nordstrom now?
While I was grabbing quick bite to eat, I recently heard about this article so I decided to search on Google to read it. I’m linking it here, so hopefully, you can read it, too. Anyway, for those who have been to Nordstrom, it’s a luxurious store that sells numerous brand name clothing and shoes. The article basically discusses a decline in the profits and the number of customers who visit the store. I thought I’d bring this up to discuss what is meant by shopping in a period like now (recession).
If you read the article carefully, there is a part where this woman passes by and compliments how she likes these Michael Kors shoes. This is a really pivotal part because think about it: your natural instinct is that people would not even bother looking at clothes that are expensive nowdays because of money. But, the truth is that they do, and there is no period in the world where people do not “look” at clothes or shoes.
A common misconception is that with bad economy, all the brand name stores will close. This is not true, and I can really tell you why. The truth is that just like those Michael Kors shoes, various items will be in great designs and come in attractive forms, possibly more than ever. You may not have to worry about competition with other customers as much since there are less number of customers, but it’s opposite for the brand name stores.
Let me do a hypothetical case study here. If customer A regularly shops at Coach and Louis Vuitton and the economy is bad, customer A will likely to shop at either of the store, but not both. Of course, you can argue that customer A will not shop at all, but that’s not going to be the case for all the time. One way or another, customer A will save up some money and buys herself a nice purse or handbag to match with her clothing, especially new ones if she had purchased them.
This time usually happens during birthdays or Christmas. So, I think that it’s fair to say that there is a very good possibility that people will buy the expensive items, but in a less number overall because they will likely go either Coach or Louis Vuitton, but not both (and this reasoning applies to anything).
So, I want you to think about what this article told you, and my theory. You may be better off saving for now, but at the same time, would you want to wait till Christmas to buy what you want while everyone else is doing the same thing? Plus, wouldn’t it be a good idea to jump in and buy at great rates AND great designs since all the stores and brands are likely to be more competitive and creative? Just something to contemplate about.

I Want to Look Great… But, Limited Budget..
Every person wants to look great for his/her special someone or just himself/herself. I have recently heard from one of my colleagues that she enjoys dressing up because that makes her “feel pretty” (I bet many of you feel the same way). For men, dressing up in nice set of suits makes you to realize how handsome you are, or in some cases, how much you have been lazy and not working out enough. Anyway, the bottom line is that desire to look good is shared by everyone.
But, as you know, we have tight budget now. We are undergoing something called recession, and well, if we have to choose between going out to eat one day and buying a new pair of jeans, many of us will choose to go out to eat. Why? You can live without a new pair of jeans, but food is something that you need to survive. So, it’s possible that many people are cutting down on their spending on clothes because they can just live with what they have.
Can they? Can they truly do this?
For couple weeks, maybe. I am not definitely saying that people should buy new clothes every week. No, that does not make much sense unless you have found something that you really liked (almost as falling in the first love, you know?). But, at certain point, people need to purchase new clothes because the older one is no longer in trend, and how you appear is not only important for yourself, but for people around you. So, what can you do? Or, the better question is when can you buy new clothes?
The key here is to understand that you need to buy good and cheap clothes. That’s right — you should equip yourself with good apparels and attain fashionable look without breaking your wallet. How would you do this? The answer: Cut down on other extraneous stuffs. By “extraneous stuffs,” I refer to things that you do not really need. Paying for gas, bills, and food is not extraneous. They are essential costs. But, let’s say that you regularly go golfing every Thursday morning and spend about $15 for admission. Take two weeks off and buy yourself a nice clothing. Or, if you are an avid reader, try to read something for free. Websites like this one allow you to read books for free. I know that many of you probably like to read it the old fashion way, so if that is the case, use local library. You do not need to buy books or focus on your games now.
Why should you do this though? Why sacrifice something you enjoy? This is because if you do not jump onto buy fashionable clothes soon, you will soon lose the grasp of “looking good.” It’s like practicing guitar. If you decide to take couple weeks ago, you will no longer be able to strum well for a while because your calluses aren’t as strong. Looking good and buying fashionable clothing takes time and skills. I hope that the items I recommend in this website can save you time to choose the one you like!

A.P.C. Jeans
A.P.C. is another France-based clothing company, similar to Lacoste. On this post, however, I want to make a point that A.P.C. offers great jeans that you should consider along with the items from 7 for All Mankind. From what I’ve gathered, A.P.C. is a very popular jean brand, but when you decide to buy this pair of jeans, you have to lower your size by 2 (e.g. if you are used to wearing size 32 for jeans, then you may want to buy the ones that are like size 30).

A difference, as you may be able to notice in the items provided above, is the price. A.P.C. is a name brand that offers qualities to its jeans, but its prices are more reasonable than some of the other companies. One website I read explained that the pleasure of wearing A.P.C. jeans only becomes better throughout the time (interesting statement, I say… I mean, no idea if this is true or not, but at least I read it. How often do you hear this kind of statement about any clothing? Not very often.). Now, why should you buy from eBay though? Why not just directly from the store (in which the link is provided as a hyperlink above)?
The answer is simple: cheaper. Okay, so let’s say that you already knew this. Another one is that the navigation of the website of the brand was a bit too complicated for those who are not computer savvy. eBay is really easy to operate, so as long as you can find what you like, there is really nothing you can complain as far as the site itself is concerned.
Let me just add that more and more I read about A.P.C. jeans, the better I feel about telling you about it. They seem to be very good jeans, and I really hope that you can consider them! And when you do consider them, buy from the good sources that I showed above! Just check it out!
